NeuraLabel Printer Frequently Asked Questions
What is a NeuraLabel Printer?
The NeuraLabel Printer is a continuous color laser printer that can print form-fed labels in batches of up to over 500 labels. The label stock is positioned on a continuous web backing that is either fan-folded or on a reel, as it is fed into the printer. Printed labels exit the printer and are refolded or rereeled.
The length of the individual labels that NeuraLabel can process is from a few inches up to 48 inches long. The maximum label width is 8.5 inches. The NeuraLabel Printer, a member of our NeuraLaserColor continuous printer family, prints coninous full-color labels at approximately 7 inches per second. In addition, cut sheet labels can also be printer on the NeuraLabel printer.
How is the NeuraLabel Printer different from Neuralog's other continuous printers?
The NeuraLabel Printer is a purpose-built continuous color laser printer developed for printing batches of labels. While similar in appearance and mechanics to the original NeuraLaserColor Continuous Well Log printer, this printer has custom firmware designed specifically for working with continuous label print jobs.
Neuralog has been in the business of selling and supporting continuous laser printers since 2004. The NeuraLabel printer takes our experience and expertise into label printing.
How long a print will NeuraLaserColor LP, or NeuraLabel, print?
NeuraLabel specification is continuous documents of 4 feet to 500 feet. Typical label runs are 50-500 labels. It is the file size, not the physical file length, that is a limiting factor in working with and printing well logs.
How do I load labels into the NeuraLabel Printer? Watch Video
The NeuraLabel printer can print Continuous Form or Cut Sheet labels.
Continuous Form Labels are placed in the printer label side up with the black mark down and toward the right. To load the labels, use both hands to guide the label stock into the printer’s Continuous Form Feeder. Once the labels are in the track, the feeder will automatically pull the labels into the printer.
When you load labels into the NeuraLabel make sure the media path is not restricted. Remove any plastic wrap from the label box and make sure the box is positioned so that it is aligned with the media path. Once the media is loaded for the first print, all subsequent prints will be automatically loaded and ready to go.
Cut sheet Labels are placed in the NeuraLabel tray label side down. If page orientation is important, the black mark at the top of the page should be in the left side of the tray.
How do I change a toner cartridge in the NeuraLabel printer? Watch Video
When the printer declares a low toner message, you will want to replace the toner cartridge. Replacement toner cartridges for your NeuraLabel (NeuraLaserColor) printer are available for purchase at Neuralog’s online store.
To change a toner cartridge open the front printer door. Remove the empty cartridge by sliding it up and out of the printer using the red handle and set it aside.
Open the new NeuraLabel toner cartridge. The cartridges for your NeuraLabel printer will be labeled "NeuraLaserColor" because the NeuraLabel printer is part of the NeuraLaserColor printer family. Both the cardboard box and inner silver bag can be open by hand. Take out the cartridge and remove all packaging. Shake the cartridge briskly up, down and sidewise. Slide the cartridge in the empty slot until in place. Close the printer door. The printer will run through a calibration procedure for the new cartridge to ready the printer for continued printing.
Place the empty cartridge in the packaging. A pre-paid return postage label is included with each cartridge. All used NeuraLaserColor cartridges should be recycled.
How does Black Only mode work and why is it faster?
Black Only mode physically moves the three color print cartridges out of the way, engaging only the black print cartridge in the print. This allows the print engine motors and fuser to run faster. Any file can be printed with black toner only by selecting this option in the printer driver. Black only mode prints at 8.7 inches per second, or about 40 pages per minute.
What versions of Windows will NeuraLabel work with?
NeuraLaserColor driver can be installed on Windows XP and Windows VISTA. 32-bit and 64-bit machines are supported. The speed of your log prints will be dependent upon your PC and printing application.
What is TTFP and how can I control it?
Time To First Print is the time from when the user sends the document to the printer from when the printer begins printing the document. Sleep (energy saver) Mode can increase TTFP. File size can significantly increase TTFP. DPI, # colors and file format all contribute to file size. The speed of your PC can greatly affect TTFP. Make sure you have a PC capable of meeting your printing requirement.
How do I know what network address to give my printer?
The best solution is to obtain a static IP address from your network administrator. If you are not able to do this, you may set up the printer to obtain a dynamic IP address when it is plugged into the network. In this case the printer automatically assigns the network address. For best results, the network should be set up to always provide the same dynamic IP address to this device.
Can I plug the printer directly into my PC?
Yes. It is possible to plug the printer directly into the PC using a special type of network cable called a crossover cable. Note that this is different from a “normal” network cable. Alternatively, it is possible to obtain a router switch box. Both the PC(s) and printer(s) may be plugged into this box to set up a private network. Instructions for setting up a private network are found in the NeuraLabel User Guide. Contact Neuralog Support for recommendations on obtaining a crossover cable or switch box.
Can I use USB to plug the printer directly into my PC?
Continuous printing is not currently supported over USB. However this has been found to work for shorter continuous prints. Cut sheet printing is supported over USB.
Can I print multiple copies of labels at one time?
Yes, the printer driver includes an option for sending multiple copies to the printer. A cut will be made after the copy batch completes.
What application should I use to print to the NeuraLabel printer?
Any application that prints to a typical office printer can print to NeuraLabel. Continuous form printing, however, requires applications that allow documents to be printed continuously. Both Microsoft Word and Adobe Acrobat meet this requirement, as well as many specialty label printing applications.
Microsoft Word 2007 and later have been tested with NeuraLabel. Whether you are using a label template or a simple word document, the pages will be printed one page per label on continuous label media.
Adobe Reader X has been tested with NeuraLabel to print PDF files. This is a free download from Adobe. Whether you are using a label template or a simple PDF document, the pages will be printed on page per label on continuous label media.

How do I boot the printer into diagnostic mode? Watch Video
Diagnostic mode is useful for adjusting printer registration, that is, the width and length of the print. To boot the printer into diagnostic mode first turn the printer off. Then turn the printer on while holding down the bottom and right arrows on the operator panel. Hold these buttons down for about 10 seconds or until the clock face appears on the printer operator panel. After the printer boot up is complete, you will see Diagnostic mode appear.
Is there a shutdown procedure that should be used if I need to move my NeuraLabel Printer?
YES. To safely transport your printer to another location, the fuser should be disengaged before turning off the printer. Do either of these:
(1) If the printer is in Power Saver Mode the fuser is already disengaged. You may now turn off the printer.
(2) Otherwise open the front cover. Listen for fuser cam motion (audible, takes about 1 second). Turn off the printer. Close front cover.
My NeuraLabel prints at first but then loses the network connection. What could be wrong?
If the printer prints at first but you seem to continuously lose your network connection, it is likely that you have a network conflict. Specifically you may have assigned an address to the printer that is now being used by another device. Turn the printer OFF. Using a DOS prompt ping the network address you were using. If you get a reply, you have confirmed that the address is in use. Obtain a different static IP address from your system administrator to use with your printer.
Other problems with network connections are usually from loose/faulty network cables or equipment. On occasion (rarely) the port the printer uses to read data may become corrupted and you may need to reboot the host PC.
Why has paper started coming out of the TOP of the NeuraLabel, rather than the BACK of the printer?
There is a diverter spring attached to your printer's fuser that diverts the paper to the back of the printer. If paper is coming out of the TOP of the printer either (1) The spring has somehow come off the fuser, or (2) A new fuser has been installed without a spring. Contact Neuralog support if you have this problem. See the documentation section for sthe pring installation procedure.
The NeuraLaserColor NeuraLabel Printer is displaying 200 Paper jam Check A. What does that mean? Watch Video
This error indicates that labels of the wrong size were loaded into the printer or the labels were loaded upside down. For example, a legal size print was sent to the printer, but letter size label stock was loaded into the printer. The labels loaded into the printer must match both the printer’s setting and the document size.
If the 200.62 Paper Jam occurs, remove the label stock by opening the printer’s front access door; This releases the printer’s hold on the labels. Gently pull the labels out until the stock is completely cleared from the printer. Make sure the correct size of labels are now loaded into the printer and that they match the document size. Press Continue on the printer’s operator panel to continue the print.
My printer has jammed with a 250.67 error. What is wrong?
Most likely the paper has been loaded upside down. This would cause the print to come out on the side with black marks, which is not desirable. Remove the paper and reload with the black marks down and on the right-hand-side, facing the Continuous Form Attachment. If this does not resolve the problem, contact Neuralog support.
