NeuraView is the ideal TIFF Cleanup tool for cleaning up large image scans such as well logs and other types of TIFF images! If your organization has scanned well logs, there’s a good chance they were scanned as grayscale or color images. They were also likely scanned so that every square inch of paper was captured, which only added to the size of the large image scans. While these settings do a great job of capturing the minute details found on well logs, they always result in extremely large images. Loading these large images is time-consuming, and in fact, in some applications, the images may not load at all. NeuraView is the tool you need to convert your color and grayscale scanned well log images into manageable black-and-white documents, ready for your analysis software.

Scanned Color Log with Large Borders Results in Large Image Scans

Raster images are a quick way to get a project started without the need for digital data. However, well logs have often been scanned in high-resolution color or grayscale, or they have been scanned with excess image borders, making the files large and difficult to use. In either case, very large image scans are created that are difficult to load and use in geological analysis software.

NeuraView makes cleaning up these scanned logs effortless and creates compressed black-and-white TIFF images that are fast and easy to work with. And these black-and-white images can have as much critical information as their original gray or color counterparts.

Cropping Large Image Scans

NeuraView’s cropping tools are designed to quickly trim away excess white space from any color, grayscale or black-and-white log. Excess white space, in the form of large margins, can double the size of a scanned well log. In addition, well logs with large margins can e difficult to use in your geological analysis software or log digitizing program. With NeuraView any margin can be easily removed from the large image scans to produce cleaner, smaller log images. The simple cropping tool lets you select between Top, Bottom, Left, or Right, and crops the unwanted margin from the entire log image.

However, margins are not always the only undesirable feature in a well log scan. Sections of the well log may be completely unreadable or simply not needed. These unwanted log sections within the well log scan can be quickly removed to further clean up the log. Simply mark the section with NeuraView’s cropping tool using the Defined Sections choice. Any section of the log is removed, again to produce a cleaner and smaller image. See it now on our YouTube Channel, TIFF Cleanup video.

Instant Rescan of Large Image Scans

Instant Rescan of Large Image Scans is another way NeuraView reduces the size of large TIFF images. NeuraView’s Instant Rescan quickly turns color or grayscale logs to black and white, tuning in the log detail with the brightness slider. With Instant Rescan, the entire well logs are rescanned and turned into black-and-white logs, without the need to pull out the scanning equipment and paper logs. The NeuraView operator monitors the rescan in NeuraView and controls the lightness and darkness, as well as the detail of the image, at all times.

Instant Rescan can bring unusable large image scans back to life. For more details on how Instant Rescan can reduce your well log image sizes, be sure to check out our blog Large TIFF Images? Instant Rescan #1TIFF.

TIFF, or Tagged Image File Format, is a standard for scanning well logs and other petroleum documents. NeuraView Rescan has been designed to work with scanned TIFF images. NeuraView software supports many other image formats including PDF, JPG, and LAS.
